First of all, our family had to cancel a trip to Italy this summer due to COVID-19. This book helped me get through that; all of that. :-)Here is a true-life story of an American family who fell in love with a foreign country, and through a series of awe inspiring and even extreme events - while juggling the adoption of a sweet baby child with the purchase of a two hundred year old classic home on five acres in France - came to live the dream of ex-pats in the Dordogne Valley. They received the beautiful child, Natalie, AND managed the purchase of Villa Page, renovating it themselves - sometimes with the help of laborers - to often nail biting effect. Did I mention that this was all without knowing much of the language or culture? What could possibly go wrong...?! N’est ce pas?The book is written by a writer couple, Hollywood writers, from the alternating perspective of each of them as they grapple with and make the LEAP of faith that moving 10,000 miles away with their new baby takes them.It is a fun read, with two very distinct voices, Bill Royce as the dreamer, and Cynthia the practical one. Cynthia is also an accomplished professional photographer, and the book finishes with some incredible shots of all the places this lively and scary adventure takes you.If you like travel, and food, great wines, and the hilarity of culture clashes, you will love this book. In fact, I’m going to read it again, and plan another trip. This time to France.
